Seth è il figlio di Kirsten e Sandy Cohen. E’ un ragazzo molto simpatico e il suo è sarcasmo sicuramente una delle sue migliori qualità. Ama i fumetti, i video-games ed andare in barca a vela, infatti possiede una barca a cui ha dato nome “Summer Breeze”, in onore della ragazza che ha sempre amato segretamente, cioè Summer Roberts.

Dopo essersi diplomato alla Scripps Ranch High School, convince i suoi genitori a lasciarlo andare a Los Angeles, per frequentare il college. Invece che iscriversi, assume un insegnante personale di recitazione e firma un contratto con un manager. Dopo alcuni mesi, ottiene una parte per la NBC movie-of-the-week, “Growing Up Brady” recitando nella ruolo di Barry Williams (Greg Brady). Succesivamente, viene preso nel cast della serie di culto di MTV “Now What?” (2002) e in "Undressed" (1999). Le sue apparizioni televisive comprendono anche il ruolo di Dave nel telefilm Gilmore Girls (Una mamma per amica, in Italia) e diverse comparse nei telefilm come “Smallville”, “Judging Amy” e “Family Law”. Ha avuto anche un piccolo ruolo nel film “The ring” e nel film "Grind” Ottiene nel 2003 il ruolo di Seth Cohen nel telefilm The O.C. Ha svolto diversi lavori prima di ottenere i ruoli che lo hanno reso noto al pubblico americano, tra cui il commesso al Blockbuster.
